mixtape in the works, watch out rhinos.

Tuesday, July 21, 2009

Welcome

I'm Matt. When I was in fourth grade my sister's best friend let her borrow the Beastie Boys' album Licensed To Ill.

Knowing little to nothing about music, and even less about rap, the turntablism fascinated me.

Self-taught I began experimenting with turntables, and as the years progressed I became more and more overwhelmed by the robotic, super-human abilities of the examples and heros I had discovered in the dj universe.

As I hopelessly began constructing beats and making loops, scouring the universe for samples and collecting dust covered story book records, my appreciation for the legends that inspired me grew incredibly deep.

I dreamed of the day a break record would be pressed with samples I found, beats that I pasted together, and random artwork that I made.

Time passed, technology advanced and the ability to digitally control anything and everything you could possibly have ever dreamed of on vinyl was developed.

I do not consider myself extraordinary by any means in the arts of production, djing or scratching, though I do have the desire to create and develop a community of innovation founded upon an underlining desire to share, explore and improve the artistic ability of expressing oneself through sound.
